E-books are all the rage. They are so streamlined, and cost-effective, that many public schools are using them instead of textbooks. The result is that school districts nationally are saving enough money to fund the operations of schools in certain parts of the country. Whether enrolled in online bachelors programs or finishing graduate studies in a nearby university, the price of textbooks can be overwhelming. Students at major universities resort to bargain hunting online for used textbooks and, in some cases, returning repeatedly to the university bookstore to rent textbooks.
The Stress of the High Cost of Textbooks
If the challenge of taking difficult academic classes and finding ways to pay for tuition weren’t enough, students must also endure the stress of having to find money for textbooks. Taking on a part-time job just to pay for schoolbooks can be a depressing proposition. Still, someone must pay for the cost of the books. Textbook writers must be paid and so must the publishers who make the books marketable and possible for mass consumption. Trees have been cut and ink has been used to create textbooks.

Although electronic textbooks are not presently a complete solution for students, change is on the way. For future students who must pay for books in addition to the tuition costs of a graduate degree or online bachelors programs, a small revolution is in the works. Presently, electronic textbooks cost about half as much as the print variety and offer a multitude of convenience advantages.
The current and prevailing challenge is that not all publishers have switched over and, therefore, a student can’t expect to find a large variety of textbook titles available. However, given the general costs of publishing and the digital option availability, electronic textbooks can be expected to take over in the future and offer a solution to the average college student’s book buying dilemma.
