Buying Ebook Readers

Buying ebook readers can be confusing at first, especially when you have particular needs in mind.

How Much Do You Read on the Go?

The best way to buy anything, especially an ebook reader, is to think about how you’re going to use the reader. For example, if you’re just going to use the ebook reader as a status symbol, just go out and buy the most expensive one. But if you actually read a lot on the go, you need to find an ebook reader that’s designed to travel as much as you do. The Kindle might be a good fit for you in that respect, though the iPad is another possible candidate.

What Can You Afford?

When price is a consideration, there are a number of lower cost ebook readers you can consider, including those from Sony, Amazon, and other device companies. Ideally, your ebook reader should not cost more than your first car or your cell phone. And if you have a decent smart phone, you might already have an ebook reader that can work in a pinch.

Do You Need a Lot of Memory?

If you’re trying to get an ebook reader to hold your entire library of books, you need an ebook reader with the most memory possible on it. Or you need to be able to expand the memory if you find your virtual bookshelves are overflowing.

How are You Connected?

Many ebook readers will require that you connect to your computer in order to download new book files, while others will not. If you’re the kind of person who is going to want to download a book on the go, you need to make sure your ebook reader doesn’t make you be attached to your computer desk for long periods of time. Or you might need to get a reader that downloads from thin air (however it does that).

Where to Find Ebook Readers

Most ebook reader companies are already selling the ebook readers on their websites, so that’s the first place to go when you’re ready to spend money. Or you might want to go into Apple store to see the iPad up close and personal. Many bookstores are now carrying the Bookkeen, Sony, and other brands of ebook readers so you can test them out before you hand over your credit card.
