An ebook is an electronic document containing a book. Ebooks are very popular nowadays. People prefer using ebooks to using printed books because it is very easy to obtain an ebook. All you will need is an internet connection and a home PC or laptop. Most ebooks are offered in special reader softwares. Some of these are free-to-use softwares available from their company websites.

There are thousands of ebooks that are offered for free on several websites. These websites are able to do so because the copyright of these books have expired. Usually these websites contain all categories of books ranging from classics to children’s comics.
Some websites lend books to its members just like libraries. Members can also purchase them here, sometimes on discount. They are alerted by these websites through e-newsletters whenever their favorite authors publish new e-books.
There are some websites that sell ebooks in multiple formats as most specialized readers are able to use ebooks in certain particular formats. They don’t require you to joins clubs or become their member.

Another place to find ebooks is the websites of authors. Here you will find links to the websites of their publishers who offer these ebooks directly on their websites. To do this you must research the author as well as the publisher.
Some local libraries also lend ebooks. With an e-library card you can easily gain access to the e-book collection of these libraries. Just visit their website and browse through the several categories of ebooks until you find one that you like.
There are some websites that simply allow you to download ebooks for free! They don’t charge you anything at all. And with a free FTP software like File Zilla you can download batches of these quickly and easily.  Simply type ‘free download ebook’ on the search bar of your browser and hit Enter. Your search engine will provide a list of such sites in the search result.

To read an ebook you  will need an book reader program. There are different kinds of ebooks available online. Some of these easy to use as they can be read with multiple types of book reader programs, and even on multiple devices. These are usually free digital text files. Others which are sold at a premium have copyright protection.
So the first thing you have to do id to download a book reader. Without one you will not be able to read an ebook. Some ebooks in simple file types can be read even without a reader program because some web browsers can read them in HTM or TXT formats. However, some file types require special reader programs.
The next step is to search for ebooks. You can easily obtain ebooks from several websites that offer them for free. Most of these websites have good collection of ebooks and you can browse through the categories in their store directories to choose your ebook. Certain other websites sell ebooks. There are others still that lend ebooks from their ebook collection just as local libraries do. These websites virtually function as libraries and you can sign up with them for an e-membership card that will allow to use their ebook collection. These libraries also alert their members through e-newsletters when their favorite authors publish new ebooks. Sometimes authors have links in their websites that will take you to the websites of their publishers from where you can directly purchase an ebook.

Before you download an ebook, make sure it is in a file format compatible with your ebook reader program. Download your ebook and save it where you can easily find it. Open the reader program and locate the ebook from the Open File option. Double click the file to open it.

Installing ereader to read ebooks

In order to read ebooks on your palm PDA you need to install ereader program on the palm PDA. The only program that can read ebooks in eReader.com’s eBook format is the eReader. Ebooks belonging to the eReader.com are encrypted by the website to protect the authors’ work. With a few simple steps you can install the eReader on your palm PDA. It is a quick and easy process.
The first step is to install the palm desktop tool integrated with the palm PDA on your computer or laptop. In addition, if your operating system is Windows then install WinZip; if it is Macintosh then install Stuffit.
Next, download the ereader program from the eReader.com website. The installation files are contained in a zip archive. So in order to install them you need to unzip these files. Double click the zip archive files and choose a folder to store the unzipped files.

Go to the folder where you stored the files and double-click the installation files. This step will run the run the palm desktop program. Click on Install on the left side of the window that opens. This will pop up a dialog box. Here click on Add.
Going back to the folder where your unzipped files were stored, select eReader.prc and click on it twice. Click Done and then Ok. All files with .pdf extension are book files. So click the first such file twice. Click Done and then Ok. Repeat the last step for each .pdf file present.
Next, using the USB Sync Cable provided, connect the palm PDA to your desktop PC or laptop. Do not forget to power it up using the AC adapter. Launch the eReader program by clicking on the eReader icon on the main page of the palm PDA.

An electronic book is simply a printed book in electronic format. Being a soft copy it can be stored in the memory of your computer, laptop or pocket PC hard disk, transferred via the World Wide Web, and viewed using a reader program. Even the disk space in the hard disk memory can be upgraded, which makes it easy to store and share ebooks. For palm PDAs, upgradation can be done with the help of external storage units. Some examples of them are CompactFlash, Secure Digital and MultiMedia Cards.
First of all, find your ebook. They are available for free in several websites. Ebooks in such websites are usually those whose copyright protection has expired. So they can be downloaded or shared without any restriction. Browse through the categories in the store directories. Usually they contain ebooks of all kinds ranging from children’s books like Harry Potter and women’s magazines to classics such as Les Miserables. There are also some websites that sell ebooks. Some of these are owned by publishers of ebooks who offer them at premium prices. Besides, there are ebook libraries. You can sign up and obtain an elibrary membership that allows you access to their ebook collection. You don’t have to worry about returning the book on time. After their return date the ebook can no longer be opened by you unless you reissue it. Some local libraries also maintain an ebook lending department. So you might want to check with your local library. However, before you download make sure the ebook is in a format compatible with your ebook reading program.

Open the ebook on your palm PDF using the document reader. To do so, right click on the ebook file and choose Open With. Choose the reader application in the drop down menu. Your ebook should open.

Simply put, an Ebook is a book that is available online. It is the same thing that you see in printed format except that it exists in the form of an electronic document. If you search for them on the internet you will find such examples as medical treatises, novels, how-to-do guides, magazines, comics and so on.

The New York Times to Launch a List for Bestselling eBooks

The New York Times will launch a list of bestselling ebooks in 2011. The paper has been publishing bestseller lists since 1925, and they are an important measurement of success in the book world. The new list will include both fiction and non-fiction ebooks. It’s no surprise, really, considering that ebook sales in the United States are expected to double in the next few years.
One division of this new list might have to be a section on resource or academic books. School textbooks are becoming more and more popular in the electronic format. Everything from history textbooks to preparatory books for things like GMAT prep courses are showing up more and more in student’s Kindles and other e-readers. Why are these becoming such big bestselling items in the ebook world you ask? Most likely two reasons are cost and convenience.
These textbooks and study guides cost less in the electronic format. Publisher costs are less for production, advertising and marketing. Because of this, costs are less for students when they need to purchase a book, study guide or prep course. Along with costing less, it is much more convenient to purchase a book online and have it delivered right to your device. No more long lines at the bookstore. Another factor is that e-books are less cumbersome than a book bag full of heavy textbooks.

It will be interesting to see what kinds of books are on the list and how the New York Times will calculate the best-selling ebooks? Amazon tends to keep stats to themselves, but the New York Times will obviously need Amazon’s data. The newspaper hasn’t specified exactly where they’ll be getting the information, stating only that booksellers, online retailers and publishers would provide input. No matter where they get the data, I’m betting that educational books will be on that list.

Online education is a new concept altogether. It has been made possible by the computer and the internet that have revolutionized the institution of education. Today you don’t need to go to classrooms to attend lectures by professors. The internet has brought classrooms into your home. Libraries or schools and colleges not the only places which provide education.
There are many ways you can gather information online. There are online encyclopedias and dictionaries, blogs written by users on specific topics, virtual classrooms, videoconferencing, online tutoring, live lectures found on streaming video sites, online classroom discussions, social networking sites, discussion boards integrated into online education environments, E-mails, and even virtual field trips.
Wikipedia is an example of online encyclopedias. In it you will find exhaustive articles submitted and edited by users on almost any topic. For example, if you type “motor vehicles” on your browser and add the words “wiki” to it, the search engine will take you to a Wikipedia page where you will find a well-researched material containing everything known to mankind about motor vehicles, beginning from the birth of motor vehicles to the latest, the fastest models and the most futuristic designs.

The Kindle made some pretty big waves when it came out. However, none of the effects was quite as noticeable as the competition is spawned. From the Galaxy to the Sony Reader and even, some may say, the iPad, the Kindle created a new approach to getting information, and created a surge of popularity for the eBook. There’s no doubt that the Kindle is the original king of the eReader world, but with so many others now in the field, does the Kindle 3 still reign supreme?

One of the places where the Kindle holds its footing incredibly well is in its competitive price. Models are currently available for as low as $139, US — a price that most other current readers simply can’t match. There are more expensive models as well, however, including WiFi enabled models, and versions of the Kindle that can access 3G networks. Even with a definite increase in price tag (with versions scaling up to the $400 mark), the price tends to run lower than competitors with similar features.

Kindle has also made some notably upgrades to specs across the board. They have increased the total battery life substantially, doubled the included storage, increased processor capabilities for faster page turn speed, and added support for more file types. One gaping hole does remain in the ePub file, although many are hopeful that this is a temporary oversight.

The Kindle remains focused on being an eBook reader, rather than attempting to enter the world of the tablet computer — now the iPad’s territory. However, while you won’t be able to login to your preferred social media company on the Kindle, the eBook features are definitely expanding.

For those seeking an affordable but solid eReader option, the Kindle is a strong choice. And, if you’re already familiar with previous iterations of the Kindle, you’ll no doubt be impressed by version 3′s improvements.
