If you haven’t watched carefully, you might have missed on the electronic reader. The electronic reader is something much like an MP3 player. You can download any readable material into one portable library. It’s been all the rage since it came out. And if the buzz is any indication, this piece of technology is only going to get better and more in demand.

Back in time when books were still coming out they were done by way of the printing press. But as the technology evolved, so did the ability to put all the files for a book onto the computer. Then the books were fed through a printing press and put out. Now if you have ever seen a text file, you know that even the biggest of books is not more than a megabyte or two at the most. So publishers decided that people could get their reading material by allowing these files to be downloaded off the Internet. You didn’t have to entertainment book in order for that to be available to you. All you needed was a computer.

What is happening nowadays is that all books are being put online for people just like you to download for a little bit cheaper than you would find at a bookstore, but not quite as cheap as you might find at a thrift store. The problem that remains is with the thousands of books and magazines that come out each and every week it is really hard to get some of the older but classic books online. This means that if you were hoping to catch up on some of the great works of an author like Charles Dickens, you may have to wait longer than you would hope, but it will be there someday. The electronic book is here to stay.

If you are a reader and currently have Target promotional codes and are looking for ways to spend them to enjoy your discount, you might be curious to know whether you can use them toward the purchase of an electronic book or Ebooks.

Actually Target was one of the first retailers outside of Amazon to offer the wildly popular Kindle electronic reading device in stores. Additionally, Target offers many Ebooks and yes, promo codes can be used to purchase them online.

Electronic books are really the wave of the future. While audio books were for a while the new wave of print technology, Ebooks have quickly begun to be the new “it” item in the world of reading.

The great thing about Ebooks is the ease of being able to access whatever it is you hope to read. No more heading to the store to peruse the shelf only to find that the book you hoped to read isn’t in stock and needs to be ordered. Now with just a couple of clicks you can easily download any print item you wish to read to your electronic reading device of choice and read until your heart’s content. Technology has really advanced the whole world of reading, changing the face of it.

Prior to the advent of electronic reading devices or e-readers, ebooks were available to be read on computers or downloaded beginning in the 1980s. People could use their computers to read the Ebooks, while more recently people began downloading them to their phones. The very first reported Ebook was created in 1971 as part of the Gutenberg Project.

Now, Ebooks are quickly becoming the medium of choice s, with Amazon reporting in July 2010 that Ebook sales had eclipsed hardcover books sales 180 to 100. This number is sure to continue to rise as the cost of e-Readers declines.

Some of the greatest English classics are available in Ebook format. For example, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a memorable classic, set on the shores of the Mississippi River. As the many adventures of the main characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn unfold, they learn many life lessons and their personalities develop, gaining deeper complexities, tuned to their understanding about nature and the river. Another interesting American novel is “To Kill a Mockingbird”. This novel is set during the period of the Great Depression and the story revolves around main characters Jean Louise and her father Finch, who is a lawyer and how the town where they live eventually deals with the intrigues of Boo Radley, who is made out to be a renegade, with the implication of having killed his own father.

Another notable classic is Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. This interesting novel, in the backdrop of beautiful Russian landscape, tells an interesting story of the main character Anna Karenina and her lover Vronsky, while exploring the themes of family life, fidelity, progress, hypocrisy, passion and faith along the course of the story.

Those who love British novels would certainly want to have their copy of the works of Jane Austen. Now you can read all of her classics, most notable of which is Pride and Prejudice, which has since been reproduced as a serial and movie. Charles Dickens, one of the most prolific writers belonging to the Victorian era, brought our some of the most interesting novels, some of which outlines the social mores of the time in which they were written, like The Adventures of Oliver Twist, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations.

English Literature Ebooks give you the chance to read and share some of the greatest classics that ever been published. Some works that cannot be found easily in printed versions are available in e-book format and you can read them at your convenience.

Getting access entertainment has come a long way in recent years. No longer reserved just for talking, many forms of entertainment have found their way to smartphones, including games, movies, music, and books.

One form of entertainment that has become increasingly popular is the electronic book, or eBooks. Many devices now have the ability to download and read eBooks. These are full text versions of books, ranging from classics to new releases to children’s books, that you can download onto your phone or personal device (such as an iPad or Kindle).

If you are using a smartphone for your eBooks, you usually need an application (app) that will allow you to download books for free or purchase them for a nominal fee. Virtual “libraries” also let you “check out” books for a small rental price, and you can read the books for a set amount of time, usually a few days, before losing access.

There are many different devices that will allow you to access and read eBooks. If being able to access electronic books is important to you, you may want to look at the different apps and abilities of smartphones before committing to one; for example, if you’re deciding on Droid vs iPhone, consider looking to see what apps are available for eBooks, what books you can download, and how much memory they have for books before making your decision.

If you want something that is used primarily for eBooks, consider a Kindle or similar device. These tend to have more features that are ebook-friendly, including screens that eliminate glare, allowing you to see the screen perfectly while reading your ebook on the beach or a park bench.

Whatever device you use, eBooks are a great way to take your entire library with you in a single, small device.

Project Gutenberg offers an extensive source of online e-books. This project started through a volunteer effort which aimed to digitize writing works to encourage book publication and distribution through digital means. The e-books provided through project Gutenberg, also termed as PG, are available for free and in a format that can be used in any computer. E-books are available in plain text, HTML, PDF, Plucker, MOBI and EPUB. Most e-books are available in the English language however there are e-books available in other languages also. There are many project affiliated with project Gutenberg and they archive e-books from specific regions or language.

The founder of project Gutenberg is Michael Hart. He began the project in 1971, with the first digital format of a written document – The United States Declaration of Independence. Inspiration to do this occurred when he was a student in the University of Illinois and was allotted unlimited computer time by two friendly operators. Wanting to give something back he created The United States Declaration of Independence in digital format and set a goal to make 10000 most wanted books available in digital form. He named his project after the German printer, Johannes Gutenberg, who initiated the movable type printing revolution.

Over the years, many improvements were made to enhance usability of Project Gutenberg. In 2004, the online catalog was improvised so that users could easily browse and search for the e-books they require. In 2009, Project Gutenberg stated that it has more than 32000 e-books, with an average of more than 50 e-books being added every week. Ebooks are easy-to-read, readily available and many of them are available for free. Readers can download the e-book and read content when it convenient, which is one of the most important reasons as to why e-books are popular.

E-books are quite popular now-a-days because they are priced lesser than printed books, since they do not have the usual overhead costs. They can be quickly downloaded and read from a PC or through mobile devices such as iPod or a PDA.

The process of publishing an e-book is fairly simple. You need to get the manuscript ready. The work you want to publish must be divided into chapters, must include a table of contents, index, and must be proof-read to ensure that there are no errors. E-books are set typically into word processing format, with a page format set to 6×9 inches or 5×7 inches. There must be a 1 to 1½ inches spacing on all sides of the e-book page and line spacing used must be set to double-space. It is best to use fonts with serifs such as Garamond or times New Roman for the content and san serifs font such as Verdana or Arial for the Heading.

Once your work is ready in word processing format with all necessary images, it should be converted into a PDF. You can publish details about the e-book in various directories and ezines. It can be uploaded to sites that allow free e-book publishing. None of the costs associated with regular book writing and publishing is present in the publication of an e-book. E-Books are available in various subjects such as art, education, health, science fiction, parenting, geography, medicine and much more. You can publish your work in the right category and market it to gain attention and response from target audience.

When you publish an e-book, you have to look into copyright issues so that the book’s content is protected. It is vital that the researched content you put into an e-book is not used by someone else without your permission or posed off as theirs. In the United States, e-books copyright laws grant exclusive rights of the book’s content to the author and prevent the author’s work from being misrepresented as that of someone else.

According to the Berne Convention, signed in 1989, copyright notice is not really necessary because every publisher work is automatically copyrighted. Nevertheless, authors decide to use this notice because it identifies them as the copyright owner. The copyright notice displays year of publication. All copyrighted works include three features which are work copyright confirmation, copyright © symbol, and year of publication and name of the copyright owner. Adding of the word ‘Copyright’ before the c and the date is also done for the purpose of impressing the copyright feature.

Most people look into registering their work for copyright protection, although this is not really required because the U.S. Copyright Office states that all e-books published prior to or right after January 1, 1978 are automatically copyright protected. The copyright is enforced for a period of 70 years after author’s death.

Copyright registration enforces ownership of e-books with authors and a public record of copyright is established. If anyone were to use their work without a license or permission, the author can file legal action get statutory damages and also payment for attorney fees. You can register a copyright for your e-book by sending in a copyright application form, with $30 application fees and the e-book copy to the Library of Congress.

The application form can be downloaded from ebook-site.com/ebook-copyrights.html. Ebooks can also be copyrighted by applying for a copyright through the Electronic Copyright Office (eCO).

An online form is available at the site http://www.copyright.gov/eco/notice.html. The form needs to be printed, sent with a copy of the e-book and a fee of $50, through post. Since copyright laws are subject to change, get updates from www.copyright.gov.

For those who don’t know what it is, here is a simple definition of an ebook. An E-book, also called an electronic book, is like a regular book that can be read digitally on laptops, personal computers and other electronic devices. There are a variety of formats for e-books, and unless a fixed format has been determined, one would find them in different formats. The most popular however, is PDF format and almost every platform is able to access and read e-books in PDF formats.

The birth of the e-book goes back 40 years and to be exact to 1971 when it was officially born from the Project Gutenberg. By 1994 the e-book had spread its roots far and wide. Although, during the initial years, e-books were not as prominent as they are now and people were apprehensive about e-books and some were even reluctant to try them out.

Nevertheless the e-book did not remain in the background for long. With the publishers deciding to go digital in 1997, e-books were out of the closet with digital publishing and scientific publications finding a cheaper alternative to printing books with the help of e-books. Today with almost everything being online, e-books have created a niche for themselves and have become quite an indispensable part of people’s lives. With more and more libraries deciding to go online and digitizing their literary possessions, e-books have made things easier by helping digital versions of literature whether fictional or non-fictional or educational on the World Wide Web for all to have the benefit of.

The question of whether the e-book would replace printed books is in the minds of many avid readers and writers; however, the speculation still goes on while the next-generation kids are already finding the ease of using e-books instead of printed ones. Visualize children not having to carry backpacks and book-bags to school and instead have all of their lessons stored in one single unit makes life simpler. The future of books is in e-books and whether one likes it or not, e-books are here to stay.
